"talking to stuff"

Talking to Stuff is an evening centered around translating material to emotion, and exploring it as both presence and a process — something dynamic, shaped by space and interaction. Through two art and sound sessions guided by emerging artists Franklin Collins, Kairi Tokoro, and Sam Murphy, we will reconsider how we look at and engage with the material world, understanding that perception is as much about the viewer as it is about the object.

Through improvised soundscapes, Tokoro invites participants to visualise sound in real-time. Equipped with drawing materials, the audience is asked to instantly react to Kairi and Sam’s experimental soundscape and visualise it on paper. Here, listening is not a passive act, but one of resonance. The soundscape will constantly shift in influence by the space and emotions of the evening, performer and listeners working together in a single act.
